Friends of Liberty State Park
The Friends of Liberty State Park is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c) (3) organization that is dedicated to the continuing beautification and improvement of this special Jersey City waterfront urban state park with its open spaces and spectacular open vistas of Lady Liberty, Ellis Island, the New York City skyline, the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay.
The mission of the 20 year old Friends of LSP is to preserve, protect, conserve and promote Liberty State Park. Our primary volunteer program is our Garden Program. Over 5 million annual visitors come to enjoy this inspiring historic, recreational, natural and cultural public resource. Visionary citizens led by Morris Pesin, the park’s “father”, worked hard for 18 years to transform a waterfront wasteland of abandoned railroad yards and decaying piers into a beautiful and beloved open space jewel behind the world’s greatest symbol of freedom.
