“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.” - David Brower
Friday, April 25
On Friday, April 25, GECKO is open to children from 1st through 5th grade as part of school field trips. There is no charge for attendance but space is limited and schools must pre-register. Please call 908.797.8604 or e-mail globalgreenexpo@gmail.com for more information. Click here for Friday's GECKO schedule.
Schools should plan on arriving by 9:30am with the program beginning at 10am and concluding at 1:30pm. The program allows for a half hour break for lunch. You may bring your own food or purchase food at the Expo. This is the ONLY time food will be allowed to be brought into the Expo.
All students will be able to see the amazing Circles and Starbursts Production and then also participate in three of the five workshops being presented. Assignments will be made by GECKO based on the ages and numbers of children attending. Those workshops are:
Compost Corner
Master Composters Millie and Sug will teach the children about what really happens to our food and paper residuals when they go to a landfill and what can happen if we compost. Worms are part of the learning and part of the fun as the kids start their own composting bins.
Organic Peace Garden
With the help of local farmers, children learn what “organic” and “locally grown” mean, and how to be good stewards of the earth.
Green Kitchen
Chef Melody teaches kids how to take in season, organic and as often as possible locally grown produce – and turn them into delicious dishes.
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle Station
Students will be introduced the the three Rs – but not Reading, Riting and ‘Rithmatic” – reduce, reuse, recycle. With reduce and reuse as the focal points, the kids will learn how all three words are important components of solving our solid waste disposal problems. The children are challenged to think of ways they can make a difference in reducing the amount of solid waste produced at home, at school and at play.
Energy Village
It takes this village to raise a child that understands where energy comes from, why conservation is so important, what alternative energy is all about and how they can help!
Saturday and Sunday, April 26 and 27
Please see the Saturday and Sunday schedules as not all programs run both days. (All of the above except Circles and Starbursts)
Green Up! An awesome program that brings together music and love for the earth for a fun filled one hour concert by Bill Shontz.
